What a great event they put on in the spring out there in the Outer Banks. Backyard Bowl Series (BBS) is a series of backyard pool contest. This particular one we took team riders from the DoubleWide Shop. Clayton Lane and Cameron Redwine. Both kicked some serious ass in their divisions. The big boys got to rock the pool as well. I got to skate with one of NC best pool riders Dave Maxwell AKA Science Fair. He was giving me advice on how to get more speed. Unforgettable time!
April was a good month in Wilmington. The DoubleWide Skate and Surf Shop put on a great show for the Azalea Festival onlookers. Here is a really quick video of us putting together the 40 foot wide halfpipe. It was prebuilt in Hampstead and then taken apart in sections which was pieced together here right on Market and 2nd Street in Downtown Wilmington. I did an image time lapse with my Nikon d50 and then compiled it together to mike a quick movie. If you look close I’m wearing a yellowish shirt.
I just got back from a 2 week surf trip in Rivas County Nicaragua. The people are awesome the food was delicious and the waves did not stop the whole time. I took over a thousand photos and shot some water video. I met some really cool locals and saw some amazing sights. The only thing I can say is to check out my photos on Flickr.
In august 2004 I went to Indonesia to surf for a month. I had the most amazing time. Here is some raw video footage I shot one day while at Uluwatu, the southern most tip of Bali and sacred prayer spot for many Balinese Hindus.
In 2006 RJ, Denis and John thought it would me a good idea to head down to Baja for holiday. Here’s a quick clip of what it was like.
My good friend Jimmer and I went to Asheville for New Years to meet some friends and meet some new ones as well. Asheville is really a diamond in the rough. It doesn’t belong in the NC landscape of typical southern cities. We were both impressed with the amount of healthy lifestyle establishments and people. We also ate at this incredible vegetarian restaurant called The Laughing Seed. A Veggie place with real attention to detail. I ate the Tico Burrito and couldn’t believe how amazing it was. Also for some good nightlife one needs only to go downstairs to Jack of the Wood for a pint. Lucky for us we spent New Years here and got some live music.
Below is a picture of our new friend Drew we met through my great friend Lindsey. It’s really hard to explain what we were doing but it didn’t involve fireworks as you might think.
What a treat to have one of my best friends come visit all the way from San Francisco for a weekend. I’ve known Denis since we’ve been 7 or so. His family is one of the greatest of all time. We also went to college together at Virginia Tech. Denis was interested in checking out the NCAA soccer finals in Cary NC which VT was able to make the final 4. A rarity for VT mens soccer. We had a great time.
